about me

Lazy days 19.7.20.JPG

Welcome to my website, and thank you for taking the time to look around. Although I have only recently started selling my paintings, and publishing books, I have been painting and writing for most of my life, inspired by the beautiful county of Dorset in South West England, where I have had the privilege of both living and growing up.

The varied landscape of Dorset, infused with ancient and natural history, studded with secret places and edged by stunning coastline has provided me with a wealth of inspiration. In my art, I aim to look at things from slightly different perspectives. I am fascinated by elements which are sometimes taken for granted, such as the subtle structures and textures in nature, or the fascinating foam patterns on the seashore. These are wonders which never cease to excite me. My aim is to create a sense of escape into these wonders, something which we can all identify with.

I am a self-taught artist who has been painting since I was a child, experimenting with different mediums. At present I am working with acrylics, trying to source products which are as kind to the environment as possible. The acrylics I use comprise ground earth pigments which I mix with a plant-based acrylic base to reduce the possibility of creating micro plastics. Previous acrylics I used contained, where possible, non-toxic pigmentation. My canvases are mainly unbleached or use wood which comes from sustainable sources. I sketch from life and paint from my loft studio as a resident artist in the beautiful 17th century Walford Mill in Wimborne, Dorset.

My writing celebrates the natural world in its many moods, words painting pictures. I aim to combine my two creative medium, so that every painting is accompanied by a caption of writing on which to reflect, and every book contains complimentary artwork.

I hope you will enjoy browsing my website.
